Woodstock officials say they are out nearly every day cleaning sidewalks
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock recognizes they don't have the equipment or man power to get all of the sidewalks cleaned in a speedy manner.
However City Engineer Harold de Haan says the sidewalks are getting cleaned. "We have been working on cleaning sidewalks with all of our equipment for two out of the three shifts -- we try not to do it at night -- but in some areas in the downtown area we do do some of the curb faced sidewalks with some of the larger equipment at night. We have been out there pretty much almost every day except for the initial days when we get snow because then we have to concentrate on the roads."
This comes after several people have expressed concerns to Heart FM about the conditions.
de Haan says yes, sidewalks are on City property.
In an interview with Heart FM News back at the start of 2014, de Haan said the City was having trouble with their sidewalk equipment which led to four of six machines being out of commission.
"We have had some mechanical break downs this year but not as bad as last year. Occasionally -- you know -- if you are running a piece of machinery for 16 hours a day, they have to come in regularly for maintenance but certainly the performance has been better this year than it was last year."
