The SIU will not be laying charges related to an arrest in Woodstock last spring.
WOODSTOCK - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is no longer investigating an arrest in Woodstock.
A 23-year-old man was taken to hospital with a broken nose on March 23rd last year after he was arrested by Woodstock Police in the area of Dundas Street and Vansittart Ave.
The SIU says the officers were responding to a report of an assault and damaged property that evening, adding the man became belligerent and had an aggressive posture when officers confronted him. That's when he was taken to the ground and handcuffed.
The SIU has since determined that there are no reasonable grounds to believe the officer involved committed a criminal offence in connection to the man's broken nose.
The Special Investigations Unit is called in whenever there is an incident with police that results in death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or discharge of a firearm.
