The Special Investigations Unit is no longer investigating the death of a 39 year old Zorra Township woman.
ZORRA TOWNSHIP - The Special Investigations Unit has thrown out their investigation into the death of a Zorra Township woman.
An OPP officer spoke with the 39 year old woman on July 28th, encouraging her to turn herself in, in regards to an investigation.
After the woman did not turn herself in, so they stopped by her home the next morning. No one answered the door.
The officer then called her phone and left a voicemail, telling her that he was coming back with a warrant.
The woman's boyfriend and friend attended the home shortly afterwards. They found her in the shed.
Acting Director Joseph Martino says they have ruled her death a suicide.
"The evidence indicates the woman's death was solely the result of a suicidal act, and therefore there is patently nothing further to investigate as far as any potential criminal liability on the part of any police officers is concerned in connection with her death. As such, I have terminated the investigation into this incident."
The SIU is called in whenever there is a circumstance involving police and civilians that has resulted in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
