Some of the campus highlights are a multi-use rec centre and a public school.
INGERSOLL - Ingersoll hosted its annual Breakfast with the Mayor event with an exciting milestone!
The District Chamber of Commerce held its annual Breakfast with the Mayor event Thursday morning, which ended with the announcement of the Ingersoll Community Campus. This represents a multi-year effort to centralize recreation along with residential needs to meet Ingersoll's community needs.
TVDSB Director of Education Bill Tucker mentions that this will benefit a ton of children in the community.
“This project reflects Thames Valley District School Board’s commitment to planning for growth and supporting thriving communities. A new elementary school in Ingersoll would help relieve current enrollment pressures, reduce reliance on portables, and create a modern learning environment for students. Through the inclusion of child care spaces, this shared community campus will also support families and strengthen access to early years programming across Oxford County.”
The campus was discussed and approved at the March 11th Oxford County Council meeting. The 7 block campus will have future residential development, a seniors care community, a public school, a multi-use rec centre, and an open space, which is served by one new local street.
The multi-use rec centre has been in discussions for a while now, with it finally being a part of these campus plans. It is on track to be ready by the fall of 2028. It will have a gymnasium, walking track, a single ice rink and several community programs and meeting rooms.
Ingersoll Mayor Brian Petrie says that the business in the community helps support the town so much, which includes this project.
"Our business community continually supports our town, so that great things like the community campus can become a reality. It was fitting to include them in today’s ceremony as a small token of appreciation for the great quality of life we have in Ingersoll and to thank them for investing in our community!"
This is just one of many announcements about the campus. And it will offer opportunities for everyone in the community to participate.
