Southwestern Public Health Confirms 7 New Cases of COVID-19 This Morning

We have more recoveries than new confirmed cases today according to Southwestern Public Health. Most of the new cases confirmed today are from Aylmer and all of the recoveries are in Oxford County.

OXFORD/ST.THOMAS/ELGIN - We have more recoveries than new confirmed cases today according to Southwestern Public Health.

The Health Unit confirmed 8 recoveries this morning and 7 new cases. Almost all of the new cases this morning are from Aylmer. This means we currently have 63 active cases in the region with most of them in Norwich, Aylmer and Woodstock. 

Here is the breakdown of the locations according to Southwestern Public Health:

Woodstock - 21

Norwich - 15

South-West Oxford - 3

Tillsonburg - 3

Ingersoll - 2

Blandford-Blenheim - 1

East Zorra-Tavistock -1

Zorra Township - 1

Aylmer - 11

St. Thomas - 4

Bayham - 1 

To date we have had 8 institutional outbreaks at Long Term Care Homes. The active outbreak is at the Bethany Long Term Care Home in Norwich. 

The number one symptom that has led to a positive test in the region is a cough, followed by a fever. Other symptoms that have resulted in positive tests include fatigue, headache, sore throat, shortness of breath and nasal congestion just to name a few. 18% of people who have tested positive in our region were asymptomatic.
