Southwestern Public Health Starts on May 1st

The new Health Unit for Oxford, Elgin and St. Thomas will start on May 1st with a new logo and a new name.

The new Health Unit for Oxford, Elgin and St. Thomas has unveiled their logo and a name.

They will be known as Southwestern Public Health starting on May 1st and you can see the new logo in this story. Warden David Mayberry says they have also finalized the Board of Health members.

"So the role of the board is like any board, basically it oversee's the direction, policy and procedures and that of the organization, in this case the Southwestern Public Health Unit. We will be setting the policies and also sort of the long term direction in what are the sort of things we want to achieve with Public Health."

Mayberry says they are excited to get down to work.

"So over the next year or so, I expect we will be spending a lot of time looking at things Public Health should be doing in the region and how we can best do them."

The new board members are:

Heather Jackson (City of St. Thomas)
Margaret Lupton (Oxford County)
David Marr (County of Elgin)
Larry Martin (Oxford County)
David Mayberry (Oxford County)
Lee Rowden (Order in Council)
Sandra Talbot (Oxford County)
Bernie Wiehle (County of Elgin)
Steve Wookey (City of St. Thomas)

Everyone living in Oxford, Elgin and St. Thomas will continue to receive the public health services they have now at the same locations in Woodstock and St. Thomas after the merger.
