Speeding into Easter Weekend

53 drivers have been charged after Middlesex OPP enforced the speed limit on the 401 on Good Friday.

MIDDLESEX COUTNY – 53 drivers in Middlesex County started their Easter weekend off with a speeding ticket.

OPP busted the drivers for travelling at least 130km/hr and on the 401 near Elgin Road between 8am and 11:15pm on Good Friday.

Officers say two of those drivers were travelling at least 50km over the 100km/hr speed limit. This includes a 22 year old woman driving with a toddler in the backseat. Both drivers have been charged with racing a motor vehicle and they have had their licences suspended for 7 days.

The Ministry of Transportation Ontario Driver’s Handbook states the following;

“The risk of a fatality or serious injury is almost five times greater for vehicles crashing at 50km/hr or more above the posted limit on a highway with a posted limit of 100km/hr."
