Seven additional plaques will be added to Woodstock's Sports Wall of Fame Saturday.

WOODSTOCK - The best Woodstock has to offer in the world of sports will be honoured Saturday as part of the Sports Hall of Fame ceremony.

Chair of the Woodstock Recreation Advisory Committee, Mark Schadenberg says in the historic category they will be going back 40 year to present the award to Doug Shelton.

"We kind of look upon him as the first person from Woodstock to play in the NHL. He played in the Original Six era, in the mid 1960s for the Chicago Blackhawks -- didn't play for a long time -- but he played in the NHL at a very difficult time to make it to the NHL. We are also giving special recognition to Jake Muzzin who of course won the Stanley Cup, in the NHL now with the LA Kings. Also, Brad Kovachik who refereed in the NHL finals and also went to the Olympics."

Schadenberg says both athletes in the individual category are involved in track and field.

"For the Male Athlete of the Year it's Steve Kocsis. About 10,12 years ago at St Marys High School he won three OFSAA gold medals. What's interesting is he essentially won them in two different sports because he won OFSAA gold in cross country running and also 3000m on the track. More of a current athlete is Karleigh Parker known for both javelin and pole vault. She is still current on an NCAA scholarship in the US."

Schadenberg says the lifetime achievement award always goes to some who has gone above and beyond.

"This year Ross Moyer is being inducted. He was involved in the Skating Club for a long time. He is posthumously being inducted this year. He's one of the -- what's interesting -- is a life time member of the Woodstock Skating Club but he's not on the Woodstock Sports Wall of Fame so it's certainly filling a bit of a gap too."

Other recipients include:

Team Category - 1974-75 College Avenue Senior Boys Basketball Team
Builder of Sport - Pat Sloan

The Sports Wall of Fame induction ceremony is slated for Saturday at 2pm at Goff Hall.
