Stratford Based Video Goes Viral!

Brittlestar’s Neighbours video has received over 45 million views on Facebook!

STRATFORD - A Stratford based video has become Facebook's next viral sensation.

The Neighbours: Explaining Canada Day to the America video portrays Canada and America as two suburban neighbours talking about Canada Day over a backyard fence.

The video was created by Steward Reynolds, also known as Brittlestar. He tells Heart FM about his inspiration behind the popular video.

"I wanted to do something that was kind of like an updated version of The Rant from back in the 90's from Molson Canadian. I sort of came up with the idea from that and I thought 'wouldn't it be cool to really take this whole neighbours thing of Canada and the US being neighbouring countries and reduce it down to suburban neighbours just chatting over the fence.' So that was the basic sort of heart of it."

The video was filmed in Reynolds own backyard in Stratford.

Reynolds had a feeling the video would be a hit when he posted it on June 27th.

"When we saw it was first starting to take off our thought was 'okay this is pretty good, wouldn't it be fun to get one million views on this video.' As it edged up and up and up as we got closer to Canada Day I thought 'okay well my goal now is to get the population of Canada, let's see if we can get 35,152,000 people to watch it.' My wife quickly pointed out that was 2016's numbers so I was off by a little bit but we exceeded it anyway."

The viral video has received over 45 million views on Facebook and approximately 123,000 views on YouTube.

Reynolds began making online videos with the help of his wife and kids about four years ago on Vine. He now posts his videos on his Brittlestar YouTube channel. Reynolds is also in the process of developing a comedy TV series alongside Matt Clarke, the creator of Convo's with My Two Year Old.
