Students are getting the chance to learn more about drug and alcohol abuse through an interactive program at the Woodstock Fair Grounds
WOODSTOCK - Over 1,300 grade 5 and 6 students from Oxford County will be attend the Oxford Race Against Drugs Program.
It's happening all next week at the Woodstock Fair Grounds. The Race Against Drugs is a community based drug and alcohol awareness program with an objective to educate students about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. Woodstock Police Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen tells Heart FM the students will get to compete against each other during the event.
"We call them pit stops - the whole focus is on racing, so we have 14 pit stops set up for the event. They include what it is like in jail, Woodstock Police our K-9 Striker will be there and we will have a drug wall and the dog will do some drug searching and education. Brittany Beatty will be there with a race car and has a program that she does with the kids."
The pit stops will feature interactive activities like a racing car simulator, health stacking cup competition, a look at what jail is like, and further understanding the traumatic impacts of drug and alcohol abuse.
