Sunday Gun Hunting is on the next agenda for East Zorra Tavistock council.
EAST ZORRA TAVISTOCK - Council at East Zorra Tavistock will take another look at Sunday gun hunting at their next meeting.
Currently the Township does not allow hunting with firearms on Sundays.
They will be asked to change those by-laws at the next meeting on January 16th.
In Oxford County, Sunday gun hunting is allowed in the Townships of Blandford-Blenheim, Norwich and South-West Oxford. Mayor Don McKay says the public is encouraged to come out and have their say.
"I'm anticipating that we will have an open public discussion on it, so we encourage members of the public to come and have their say, we will have a report available online and we encourage people to read that."
McKay says he has heard from several people in the community who want to allow hunting on Sundays, however he knows a lot are against it as well.
"Sunday has been Sunday and in our rural conservative communities, many people want to hang onto the traditional Sunday as much as possible, peace and quiet, there are a lot of good reasons to consider it. On the other side, there are many people who say that is their day off, it's the day they have to spend with family and friends and want to exercise their opportunity to pursue that leisure as well."
If approved Hunters would still have to follow all of the rules and regulations set out by the Ontario Government.
The municipalities in Ontario that currently permit Sunday Gun Hunting can be found at the following link:
The January 16, 2019 meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. All East Zorra-Tavistock Council meetings are held in the Oxford County Council Chambers at the Oxford County Administration Building - 21 Reeve Street, Woodstock Ontario.
