Sweaburg Library Growing

10-year-old Ava recently donated 40 books to the Community Library

The Community Library in Sweaburg is expanding programming and amenities

SWEABURG – The Community Library in Sweaburg is expanding.

It's been one year since Ritu's Convenience partnered with the Sweaburg Lion's Club to open up a library in the corner of the store.

Due to the success of the library program, Owner Bob Pate will be installing a computer in the store to help students with their school work.

"We are not selling anything but the computer will be there so they can use that as a tool and they can do their little homework and they can talk about the new projects and they can discuss," Pate said.

A new program is starting at the Community Library to encourage more students to read.

The Kids Club idea comes from Raj Patel, a 13-year-old from Sweaburg who goes to a school for the gifted in London.

"For all the kids, they are going to come to the library, they are taking the books to read at home and whenever they are finished reading the book, the parent has to sign that they already read that and who ever reads more books at the end of the year, they will definitely get a notable prize from our library," Pate said.

"We believe it's important to read the books instead of going on the Internet and search for all that stuff, like reading is necessary stuff and that's why we are doing this stuff."
