Swim Boost

South Western Aquatics Club gets $35000 from Ontario Trillium Fund for new starting blocks

Local competitive swimmers are getting a boost from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

The Woodstock and Tillsonburg South Western Aquatics Club received just over $35 thousand Saturday to purchase new starting blocks for competitions.

President of SWA Liam McCreery says the blocks were badly needed.

"As I've said to the team, we're really excited because it's not really an investment in blocks, it's an investment in our children. It allows them to take on an amazing sport, swimming."

"We had older equipment that was starting to be unsafe. We knew we needed new blocks to first allow our kids to be safe and to have the best blocks we could have so we could host meets. Swimming is an expensive sport and hosting meets is an excellent way to raise money."

McCreery says while the club represents both Tillsonburg and Woodstock, they are unable to host meets in Woodstock because the Southside Pool is too outdated. He says he hopes a new indoor pool will be considered for the Woodall Rec Complex project.
