Tanya Gillis would like to help residents have their voices heard as the Ward 6 Councillor for South-West Oxford.
SWOX - She wants to make a difference in her hometown community.
Tanya Gillis was born and raised in Beachville and she has decided to run for the Ward 6 councillor position in South-West Oxford.
"The mom hat is not needed as much as it used to be and I'd just love to help my community out and have their voices heard."
Gillis is a senior account technician for an accounting firm in Ingersoll and she has also been the President of the Beachville Parks and Rec Society for six years now. She has been involved in lots of other aspects of the community over the years, whether it's teaching Sunday school, helping with public school events, or dedicating her time to the local museum.
She is excited to see fibre internet coming to Beachville because it would benefit a lot of small businesses in the area.
If she's elected, she also wants to make sure all residents have their voices heard.
"I like to see diversity in a council, so being a woman I think that's important because South-West Oxford has only had one female representative in the last little bit and unfortunately she passed away. I think it's good to have a diversity of different ages and different genders so everybody is represented and has a voice."
The municipal election is scheduled for October 26th.
