SWOX Council Endorses Online and Telephone Voting for 2022 Election

It looks like voters in South-West Oxford will be able to cast their ballots online or over the phone during the next municipal election in October 2022.

SOUTH-WEST OXFORD - South-West Oxford Council has decided to endorse online and telephone voting once again for the upcoming municipal election.

Mayor David Mayberry says it will be a convenient and secure option for voters in October 2022.

"Going to the polls, while it's a great social event, seems to be a bit of a challenge for a lot of people. In the vote by internet or phone, the voting opens a period of time before so you have a couple of weeks to find time to make one phone call or visit the website."

Mayberry says it's a very secure system so voters don't have anything to worry about.

"The security of the system so people don't know how you voted or can influence the vote in some way is paramount and I think the providers of this service can assure us that its going to be met."

He adds voters will still be able to cast their ballots at the Township a week before the election if they prefer.

The Township also offered online and telephone voting during the last election, and Council was satisfied with the outcome.

Mayberry says a handful of other municipalities in Oxford, including Tillsonburg and Zorra Township, have decided to endorse online and telephone voting as well. He would like South-West Oxford to work with those municipalities so they can prepare a joint proposal in hopes of finding a vendor to provide the online/telephone voting service.

The 2022 election should have a similar cost to the Township as the 2018 election, but Mayberry is hoping the joint proposal would result in savings for all of the involved municipalities.
