This means kids who were born in 2009 and haven't turned 12 yet are now eligible to be vaccinated at any of the clinics offered by SWPH.
Southwestern Public Health has expanded COVID-19 vaccinations to include children who will be turning 12 this year.
The announcement follows the direction of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kieran Moore. This means anyone born in 2009, even if they have not turned 12 yet, are eligible to be vaccinated.
Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says it is important to get vaccinated before the school year starts to maximize protection.
"As much as we are enjoying this hot weather and our summer activities, the new school year is just around the corner. Our goal is to have as many youth as possible vaccinated before they return indoors.
Schools are so important for so many reasons. High vaccination rates will keep them safe and open in 2021-2022."
Effective immediately, the Southwestern Public Health’s mass immunization clinics in Tillsonburg, Woodstock and St. Thomas, as well as its temporary pop-up clinics, all have the Pfizer-branded vaccine for those born in 2009 or earlier.
Appointments are no longer needed. Walk-ins accepted. A full list of clinic locations and hours of operation is available at www.swpublichealth.ca/eligibility. Those with questions or looking to book an appointment may call the Southwestern Public Health COVID-19 Response Centre at 1-800-922-0096 ext. 9.
When going to a clinic, make sure to be well hydrated and have a good sized meal with some form of protein before getting your shot.
