SWPH Investigating Dispensing Error at St. Thomas Mass Vaccination Site

SWPH says up to 6 people may have accidentally received a dose of saline solution instead of COVID-19 vaccine if they got their shot in St. Thomas on Nov 30th.

ST. THOMAS - Southwestern Public Health has confirmed that a dispensing error took place at it's mass vaccination clinic in St. Thomas about a month ago.

Officials say up to six people may have received a dose of saline solution instead of a COVID-19 vaccine, if they got their shot on November 30th. This was an isolated incident that was caused by human error and no one under the age of 11 was affected.

It's also important to note that saline solution is not harmful to humans. It's a mix of water and salt and it's often used in medicines.

Southwestern Public Health is working with Public Health Ontario to investigate this situation and they will be reaching out to those who may be affected.

Southwestern Public Health is also making some changes at it's mass vaccination sites to make sure this never happens again. This includes increased auditing and bundling vaccine vials with diluent bottles.
