SWPH is not considering a section 22 order to close businesses with 5 or more COVID-19 cases, they will instead make those decisions on a case by case basis.
OXFORD/ELGIN/ST.THOMAS - Southwestern Public Health is not considering using a section 22 order to close down businesses with 5 or more COVID-19 cases at this time.
Peel Public Health and Toronto Public Health introduced the measure earlier this week for their regions.
SWPH Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says they will continue to deal with workplace infections on a case by case basis.
"We have been looking carefully at the orders that Toronto and Peel have done for workplaces, we are not intending to follow suit at the moment. Due to the large number of cases that are occurring in Toronto and Peel and to streamline their approaches and to be sure that they responded efficiently to workplace outbreaks, the section 22 orders were put in place."
Dr. Lock says we do have outbreaks at local workplaces.
"We are carefully considering when the number of cases and the type of transmission were seeing within the workplace does warrant closing. We are doing it case by case at the moment as opposed to having a carte blanche section 22 order."
