Woodstock City council were asked for some assistance in this year's Terry Fox Run. Managing the track and having auxiliary police in attendance were among the requests that council approved.
WOODSTOCK - As the Terry Fox Run gets set for later this year, Woodstock City council will help out with the event.
Co-chair John Versaevel requested for some support for the upcoming event.
And Mayor Trevor Birtch says staff is happy to contribute.
"Tonight we heard about the Terry Fox Run and support requested from the City of Woodstock, that includes logistical support, making sure that the Terry Fox track is ready to go, that the route is well marked. We have our Parks department making sure that amenities are there, the garbage cans, et cetera, Woodstock Auxiliary Police. Again, this is another one of those community events where so many people come together and the City is very happy each year to be able to offer a little bit of help to make sure with the logistics that everything goes off without a hitch."
He says an event like this helps brings the community together.
"Just like your listeners at Heart FM when you get out and meet your neighbours and you help out in a practical way like the Terry Fox Run, this is really what makes the heart of a community."
Mayor Birtch adds the community has donated a lot money towards the event over the years, bringing in a total of over $400,000.
This year's Terry Fox Run will be at College Avenue Secondary School.
It will happen on September 15th.
