Two Tiny Homes projects are currently in the works in Woodstock. One is run by the County and the other is a partnership between the Woodstock-Oxford Rotary Club and others.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock-Oxford Rotary Club would like to clarify a few things when it comes to the Tiny Homes Initiative.
President Steve Zehr says it's not connected to another Tiny Homes project in the area. That project is run by the County and it's going to offer affordable housing in the south end of Woodstock.
The Tiny Homes Initiative looks to offer transitional housing and it's a partnership between the Rotary Club, Sierra Construction, Maranatha Christian Reformed Church and others. They're going to build small homes of about 100 square feet so vulnerable people have a place to live temporarily until they can move on to another form of housing.
Zehr says the planning committee meets every week and they're working on a plan to present to Woodstock City Council.
"We are working towards a plan and a budget to move forward with initially starting 10 of these on a location that's outside of the downtown core close to a bus route."
The plan would address counselling, management and security concerns. Zehr says they're also going to ask Council for grace period for some of the bylaws.
"These Tiny Homes don't really fit in a lot of the regulatory areas for housing and zoning so we're asking for a grace period for the next year."
A shell of one of these Tiny Homes is on display at the Woodstock Home Hardware but it will move throughout the County over the next couple of months in order to raise awareness for the project.
