Gallery Cinemas was able to reopen it's doors last month and business has been going well for the Woodstock movie theatre ever since.
WOODSTOCK - The past 17 months have been a rollercoaster for Gallery Cinemas in Woodstock.
The local movie theatre had to close it's doors when the COVID-19 pandemic first hit in March 2020. They tried to reopen last summer but a lot of people were not comfortable going back to the movies just yet.
Katie Schurman, one of the employees, says a lot of their staff members had to be laid off during the shutdown.
"The majority of our staff members are in high school or college so a lot of it is a part time job for us. So some staff had to find different jobs in fast food and such but a lot of us have stayed committed to Gallery Cinemas and come back."
Gallery Cinemas opened it's doors once again when the province entered Step 3 of the Ford Government's Roadmap to Reopen Plan. Schurman says they had no problem re-staffing, adding they currently have about 12 part time staff and a couple of managers on the payroll.
Schurman says business has also been going well for the theatre over the past month.
"We really have seen a lot of dedication and a lot of regulars coming back to the theatre which is always awesome to see. We're seeing those familiar faces that we saw prior to the pandemic and it's really comforting for our staff to see these people coming back."
Gallery Cinemas does have COVID-19 safety protocols in effect in order to protect customers and staff members.
All tickets must be purchased online in advance. If you have a gift certificate for the theatre, you can stop by the theatre during it's regular hours and a staff member will be able to assist you.
You must also wear a mask whenever you're not in your assigned seat. The theatres will also have capacity limits and select seats will be blocked off.
