An international symbol will be at the Quality Inn and Suites in Woodstock today
WOODSTOCK - The Rotary Flame will burn brightly in Woodstock today.
The Rotary Flame was originally launched by the Rotary International President back in December of last year to commemorate a Polio Free India. As an organization, Rotary began the Polio Eradication Campaign back in 1984.
The Flame has travelled all over the world, making stops in Australia, Europe, South America, and yes, even Canada.
At noon today, Ellen Hutichson will carry the iconic symbol into the Quality Hotel and Suites. Hutchison was one of 5 people in Oxford County who contracted polio in the 1950s.
Rotary has been a pioneer in the Polio Eradication Program, having started the Red Measles Campaign as far back as 1979, when they imported 68 000 doses of vaccines.
