The fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters comes back for another year
WOODSTOCK - The Turkey Trot is returning for another year to support Big Brother Big Sisters of Woodstock and District.
The Turkey Trot will take off from the Woodstock Fitness and Racquet Club, and Promotions Manager Heather Nielsen says they were happy to bring it back for a second year. "We really wanted to get more involved with the community and help give back to the community, so it's really important for us to find a way to do that. And being a fitness club, we just thought a run would be a great idea."
Nielsen says this run is open to all ages and abilities. "We do have a kiddie run, it's 500 meters for the 12 and unders. Walkers are definitely welcome. Being 5 k it won't take very long to even walk it. The kiddie trot starts at 7:45 a.m. and the Turkey Trot starts at 8 a.m."
The registration fee is $20 for the kiddie run or $40 for the 5k.
Group Program and Volunteer Coordinator with BBBS James Rijneveld says support like this will go a long way. "Talk to some Big Brothers, Big Sisters - they're coming out to support it. And some littles. We have close to 50 littles that are on a waiting list. So our programs are expanding, we just really need to find some volunteers. It's an hour a week."
To register you can go to Woodstock Fitness and Racquet Club's website (wfrc.ca) or stop in to their office at 1280 Seagrave Drive. They are also accepting day of registrations as well.
The Turkey Trot is this Sunday, October 4th. Registration opens at 7 a.m. at the Woodstock Fitness and Racquet Club.
There will be a post-trot party at the fitness club at 9:30 a.m.
