Tillsonburg is getting thrust into the limelight by Gopher Dunes in nearby Courtland when it hosts an internationally recognized event this summer.
The Town of Tillsonburg is getting 30 seconds to promote itself on the international stage this summer when Gopher Dunes hosts a Rockstar Pro National Motocross event.
The Courtland-based dirt bike track on Highway 59 is operated by Frank Schuster. He donated a commercial within the telecast of the event to the town.
Schuster said he has a good relationship with Tillsonburg and tells visitors of his track to spend their time and money in the town.
"It's a common fit for us because Tillsonburg is so close. They've helped us out in the past with different things as far as everything is close to our place. So if people need to go to a grocery store, or restaurant, or need to go to a motel, it's very, very close."
Schuster says the Rockstar Pro race at his track runs July 12 and 13 and he expects between 5,000 and 10,000 people to attend, creating an economic boon for the area surrounding his track.
"It does bring in a lot of business to the area," he said. "I know that every time I go to a Chamber of Commerce meeting a lot of the business people from there always tell us about the impact that it makes on their business and it's usually a positive one."
Schuster said the two-day event will also feature a concert.
"There will be three bands and we're going to be annoucning that probably in the middle of March. They'll be very high profile bands," Schuster said, referencing the energy drink's "party like a rockstar," slogan.
"I know that the bands that they're going to bring in are going to be awesome."
Gopher Dunes was established in 1986 on a former tobacco farm, according to the company's website.
