"We opened the doors at 9:30 this morning, and the people flooded in." - Lisa Miettinen, Oxford County Library CEO The public is getting their first look at the freshly renovated Tillsonburg Library today. The Library Lane facility has been shut down since January, when it was absorbed into the Oxford County system. Up until Monday, the Library had been operating out of the Town Centre Mall. But today, Library goers are enjoying what the newly renovated space offers, according to Miettinen. "One, it offers accessible shelving, it is all new and accessible to someone in a wheelchair. We have three times as many computers as the old facility and we are offering more comfortable seating." But perhaps the greatest initial reaction on day one of the renovated facility, Miettinen says has been about the aesthetics of the space. "The number one reaction is how bright and spacious it seems. It actually isn't really bigger, except for one back corner, but I think the change in colour and the new windows and better lighting, I think people think it looks a lot bigger." The Library shut down on Monday to move as much of the collections as possible from the temporary location. Staff will still be adding elements over the next 2-3 weeks before their back to 100%, including some shelving that was on back order. Look for a grand re-opening to be held sometime in mid-September.
