Tillsonburg Councillor Brian Stephenson passed away suddenly while vacationing in Sauble Beach on Friday at the age of 67.
TILLSONBURG - A long time councillor with the town of Tillsonburg has died.
Brian Stephenson passed away suddenly but peacefully while vacationing at his family cottage in Sauble Beach on Friday.
He was 67 years old and serving his fourth term as councillor. Mayor Stephen Molnar says he will be missed in council chambers.
"From a council perspective certainly he was unique. He brought passion, insight and experience into the community and ultimately caring about the people he represented."
Molnar adds Stephenson was much more than just a city official.
"Brian touched people's lives as neighbour, as a friend, as a colleague, as a volunteer, as a leader, as a teacher and that can't be just summarized in the minutes of a council meeting. I think we're at a loss but it's also been our historic gain."
Stephenson was a member of various organizations including the Tillsonburg Knights of Columbus, the Cancer Society, the Tillsonburg Curling Club and the TDMH Board. He was the Tillsonburg Citizen of the Year back in 2001.
The town flags have been lowered in his honour and will remain that way for the rest of the week.
