County of Oxford hosting a public meeting on Waste Management
WOODSTOCK - Got an opinion on waste collection in Oxford?
County staff want to hear from you.
A public information meeting is being held Wednesday to give residents the chance to give comments, positive or negative on the 22 recommendations in draft Waste Management Strategy.
Waste Management Coordinator Pamela Antonio says there has been a lot of focus in the media about the proposed switch to a six day garbage and recycling collection rotation.
"The strategy is about much more than that. There's many other initiatives being proposed in the strategy but more importantly, the six day collection cycle, it's not about moving your collection to six days and making it less convenient for you, but it's about increasing the frequency of recycling collection."
Antonio says the strategy will impact all residents in the County who generate waste and recyclable materials.
"This strategy is going to shape how we run waste management in the County for the next 5-10 years so we want to try and get it right the first time so we need that input to try and do that."
Antonio says the event is scheduled from 6-8pm.
"At 6:15pm we will start a presentation that will be about 20 minutes long where we will go through some of the recommendations that have been made in the document, go into a little more detail on the rationale behind some of the recommendations that we have made and then we will open that up for questions."
Antonio says following the formal question and answer period, those in attendance will have the chance to have one on one conversations with County staff.
Even if you haven't read the report in advance, you would still get information from the meeting.
Antonio says all of the comments will be compiled into one data base and then they will go through them to get a feel from the residents on their preference for the different options.
The public meeting is set for Wednesday, June 18 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Oxford County Council Chamber. The meeting will also be broadcast online, giving citizens the opportunity to submit their questions and take part from the comfort of their own home.
