Tourism Oxford is a finalist for the Ontario Tourism Award of Excellence.
OXFORD COUNTY - Tourism Oxford is up for a prestigious award.
They are a finalist for the Ontario Tourism Award of Excellence. Tourism Specialist Meredith Maywood explains why they were nominated for this award.
"Oxford County is already recognized as a leader in environmental action, throughout the commitment to Zero Waste, transportation advocacy and more. So Tourism Oxford is really excited to play a part in fostering the development of green travel opportunities, which is a growing sector in tourism. We have done that in a variety of ways, one action that we did in 2017 is we became Green Tourism certified and that certification recognized the sustainable practices in the office, promotion of sustainable travel and encouraging business to implement more sustainable practices."
Other things they have done recently is the launch of Oxford Fresh and the Oxford County Cheese Trail, which promotes everyone enjoying more local food. They have also created new products, including an outdoors map that promotes cycling, trails and paddling in Oxford County.
Maywood says the award will be handed out later this year.
"Three other locations are in the running as finalists and we wish them all good luck, they include the Cheltenham Badlands Visitor infrastructure program, Cowbell brewery and OWL Rafting, all fantastic destinations in Ontario."
