Over 300 employees at Toyotetsu Canada in Simcoe are out of work right now as the plant voluntarily closed because of a COVID-19 outbreak. They provide parts to TMMC plants in Woodstock and Cambridge.
UPDATE: Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada has decided to pause production in Woodstock and Cambridge starting today.
In an official statement, TMMC says it's monitoring the situation closely and it will advise all production employees once the parts supply issue has been resolved.
SIMCOE - Toyotetsu Canada has shut down operations at their Simcoe plant.
This impacts over 300 employees at the factory. The plant is dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak with 25 people testing positive. Toyotetsu Canada put out a statement on Facebook on Tuesday night announcing the news:
“Toyotetsu Canada has agreed to voluntarily shut down operations and close the plant out of an abundance of caution and will reopen when it is safe to do so. Toyotetsu Canada will continue to work very closely and cooperatively with public health on any and all necessary outbreak measures to open as quickly and safely as possible.”
The Toyotetsu plant in Simcoe is one of the parts suppliers for the TMMC plants in Woodstock in Cambridge.
No word at this time as to what kind of impact this will have on production at those plants.
We have put out an email request to TMMC to see if this will result in any closures or temporary shut downs.
