If you have concerns regarding the Trans Canada Trail, you will soon have a chance to voice your opinions.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County is seeking the public's input in order to have a Trans Canada Trail come into the County.
Director of Public Works for Oxford County, Robert Walton, explains where the new addition of the trail would run. "The Trans Canada Trail project is to fill in gaps in the Trans-Canada Trail as it exists within Tillsonburg and it exists in Norfolk County. This would be the extension east from Tillsonburg through a small piece of South-West Oxford and then Norwich, eventually connecting to the trail in Norfolk going to Delhi."
The project would incorporate 27 kilometres into Oxford County and Waltonsays 65% of the cost would be covered through grants. "There is funding from both the Trans-Canada Trail and the Pan AM Games for $560 000 of the total $870 000 estimated project cost. We are going to have meetings to show the public what is being proposed, and then to initiate the one on one discussions we will have with the number of the adjacent landowners." Concerns have been raised by nearby landowners as this would cause an increase in pedestrian traffic.
Walton believes it is essential to have the trail enter the County as we are only the few areas that do not currently have it. "This is just one of the last of the 17 projects to get off the ground. We're anticipating the majority of the project to be completed in 2016. We certainly know there are concerns out in the public from properties that are adjacent to it and through the consultations we hope to deal with the issues. We are looking forward to a very successful project here."
The two public consultations are set to be held at the Springford Community Hall on November 3rd and at the Tillsonburg Complex on November 5th both from 7-9pm.
