Turn On Your Lights

Police are reminding everyone to turn on your headlights today because of the blowing snow.

UPDATE: 1:36 p.m. HWY 24 is now open. The driver did not sustain any serious injuries.

UPDATE: 12:15 p.m. Highway 24 is closed right now between Concession 2 and Burford Delhi Towline Road after a collision involving a Transport Truck.

UPDATE: HWY 19 just south of Salford is back up and running after the tractor trailer jacked-knifed this morning.

The OPP are reminding everyone to drive with their headlights on today.

Blowing snow is creating poor visibility in some areas. Constable Ed Sanchuk says he has seen far to many vehicles without their headlights on this morning.

"If you are travelling on the roadways today you can experience whiteout conditions due to the blowing snow. We need people to turn their entire head lighting system on in your vehicle, it is as simple as 1,2,3, just click that switch on, you need to be visible, you need to be seen. Turn your entire head lighting system, it could save you a collision, or even yet worse, becoming involved in a collision."

Already today police have responded to a number of collisions on our roadways. We have heard of at least crashes on the 401 in Oxford County. Also a tractor trailer jacked-knifed on Highway 19, just south of Salford, blocking the entire road for over an hour. As of this posting, HWY 19 is still closed in both directions just south of Salford due to the collision.
