The TVDSB and the LDCSB released statements yesterday, saying their schools will be closed until further notice and all students will continue with independent remote learning for the time being.
OXFORD/LONDON - All schools within the Thames Valley District School Board and the London District Catholic School Board will remain closed until further notice.
Both of the school boards released statements last night, informing parents and guardians that independent remote learning will continue for the time being.
Fifty-five thousand of Ontario's early childhood educators, educational assistants, custodians, and office administration staff walked off the job on Friday. They're all represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees and the Ontario Labour Relations Board is currently reviewing the matter, trying to determine if they broke the law.
The province passed legislation last week, forcing a contract on the workers in order to prevent them from striking. The deal includes a 2.5 percent salary increase for workers making less than $43,000 annually and a 1.5 percent salary increase for everyone else.
The union originally asked for annual increases of 11.7 percent to keep up with inflation. It introduced a counter-offer last week, but Education Minister Stephen Lecce stated that the province will only consider the offer if the strike ends.
