TVDSB To Hold Virtual High School Graduations

High school students in Thames Valley will have their graduation ceremonies held online this year as in-person ceremonies are not possible due to provincial COVID-19 protocols. The virtual events will occur before the end of November.

OXFORD COUNTY - Graduation ceremonies for high school students in Thames Valley will be done virtually this year.

The TVDSB says they are planning virtual commencement ceremonies to recognize student achievements. They will be taking place this month when most schools traditionally hold graduation and student award ceremonies.

Due to provincial COVID-19 protocols on physical distancing and restrictions on the size of social gatherings, in-person ceremonies are not possible at this time of year when many high schools traditionally hold graduation events.

The virtual ceremonies will feature student photos and pre-recorded video presentations by staff, students and special guests, such as the Director of Education, Trustee, MPP, municipal leader, or school Superintendent, and will be made available as a keepsake to families upon request. Superintendent Paul Sydor says this wasn't an easy decision.

“We recognize that graduation and awards ceremonies are important milestones for students and families. Our schools are committed to celebrating our students’ achievements in this virtual format. The health and well-being of our students, families and staff is our highest priority."

Schools will distribute students’ Ontario Secondary School Diplomas by mail or contactless pickup.

These virtual events will occur before the end of November 2020. Families can contact their child’s school for more information.
