Twice in a Day

Brampton man stopped twice for driving erratic through Oxford County

OXFORD COUNTY - A Brampton man is facing a long list of charges after being stopped for erratic driving twice on the same day.

Oxford OPP received a complaint about the driver around 10 Wednesday morning in the westbound lanes of Highway 401. 
 
When officers pulled the man over, he verbally identified himself and was issued a three day drivers licence suspension for registering a warning on an approved roadside screening device. The vehicle was towed off the highway and the driver was instructed to await a licensed driver to retrieve it.
 
Then at 1:30 pm the same vehicle was reported again driving erratic, this time eastbound on the 401 Highway in Oxford County. When OPP spotted him, they say he was driving on the paved portion of the shoulder. 
 
Further investigation revealed that the driver falsely identified himself in the earlier traffic stop and was arrested. The vehicle was impounded for seven days.
 
36 years old Nicholau Barbosa of Brampton is charged with the following:
 
Obstruct Peace Officer – contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
Personation with Intent to avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice (Identity Fraud) – contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
Driving while under Suspension (2 counts) – contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (H.T.A.) 
Class G1 Licence holder – drive on prohibited highway (2 counts) – contrary to H.T.A. 
Class G1 Licence holder – B.A.C. above zero (2 counts) – contrary to H.T.A. 
Class G1 Licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver (2 counts)- contrary to H.T.A. 
Driver - fail to surrender Licence – contrary to H.T.A. 
Careless Driving – contrary to H.T.A.
