United Way Oxford collected 1,393 boxes of menstrual hygiene products in addition to $2,120 cash.
OXFORD - United Way Oxford has released the final total from it's Period Promise Campaign.
All of the Shoppers Drug Mart locations in Oxford County collected donations of menstrual hygiene products in the month of February. Networking events were held in Woodstock, Ingersoll and Tillsonburg on Tuesday, March 3rd.
Marketing and Communications Coordinator Macy LeConte says they're satisfied with the result.
"We ended up collecting 1,393 boxes of product and we got $2,120 in monetary donations. This is down from last year but it's still great because it's still going to make such a difference to all of the agencies that we work with."
She's attributing the drop in donations to the high price of menstrual hygiene products, which also shines a light on how important this campaign is.
"People were going to pick up products to donate and they didn't realize how expensive things had gotten. That had even changed their own minds about donating because they don't have that money to spend right now. If you're thinking about that just to yourself, you can imagine when we have these agencies that are reaching our for products, how that need is just growing even more."
LeConte would like to thank Montana's BBQ & Bar in Woodstock, Kelsey's Original Roadhouse in Tillsonburg and Scotch & Ponder in Ingersoll for hosting the networking events last week, adding they were well attended. She would also like to thank everyone who donated to the cause.
You can donate to the Period Promise campaign year-round through the United Way Oxford website online here.
The Period Promise campaign was formerly known as Tampon Tuesday. United Way decided to change the name of the campaign last year, so it highlights a pledge to address the issue year round, not just one day of the year.
