UPDATE: Councillor Forcing Mayor's Hand on Tillsonburg Security Issue

Tillsonburg Councillor Marty Klein is getting the special meeting he requested. Five out of the seven members of Tillsonburg Town Council have requested the meeting after Klein believed it was only right to explain matters to the public. The special meeting will be held on Tuesday at 4:30pm in the Tillsonburg Council Chambers, upstairs in the Tillsonburg Town Centre mall. Klein invoked his privilege as a councillor, and forced a special meeting in the town over a reported security breach. What that security breach is remains a mystery after the town reportedly locked the doors to some of its sites on Wednesday morning. On Thursday afternoon the town issued a press release that states -- "On October 24, 2012, the Town of Tillsonburg had a security issue that was quickly resolved early in the day. Throughout this time all Town Facilities were open and conducting business for the citizens and businesses of the Community except the Corporate Office located at 200 Broadway Street on the second floor." Councillor Klein says the public has a right to know. "The meeting was called because of the number of concerns that have been expressed by citizens about 'What's going on in this town?'. Is there a danger? Is there something we should be worried about? And I felt the community needed to be informed. The only way council can make a decision and speak is through a council meeting." Klein is trying to settle people down, but will only say there was no threat made against a person, but he says the town was acting to protect one of its assets. Klein says his initial request to Lessif to hold a public meeting was denied. Klein and four other councillors have forced the Mayor's hand, by calling for a special meeting, which the public needs to be notified about within 48-hours. Officials have not returned calls to Heart FM on the issue, and Mayor John Lessif refused comment in person at County Council on Wednesday night.
