Each month the Woodstock Art Gallery brings a film from the Toronto International Film Festival to the local theatre. They will do these movies on the last Monday of every month until June.

WOODSTOCK - You don't have to head to the big city to see award winning films from the Toronto Film Festival.

The Woodstock Art Gallery is starting their popular See you At the Movies program this Monday. Curator Mary Reid says they have been doing this program for several years now.

"The See You At The Movies Program is actually in it's 22nd year. It is quite extraordinary how popular Art House film is here in Woodstock, they take it very, very seriously. TIFF has just closed and what they do, is they will take some of the very best films from the festival and then they put them out across Canada. So various libraries, Art Galleries, Community Centres are able to screen some of the best films from that circuit and we are one of the recipients of that."

The first movie they will be showing is a documentary from the U.K called Maiden. Reid says it is an amazing story about the first woman to captain a ship.

"It is the story of Tracy Edwards, she was a 24 year old and she became the skipper of the first ever all female crew to enter the around the world race in 1989. So it is really a kind of behind the scenes and a real testament to our power against the natural forces and the teamwork to get through difficult circumstances."

It will have two showings at the Gallery Cinemas in Woodstock at 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm this Monday.

Season passes only cost $85 and are available at the Art Gallery. Single tickets are $11 and can be purchased 20 minutes before the film at the Gallery Cinema.

Other films featured include:

Monday, Oct. 28, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

A mere three days prior to the scariest day of the year is the thriller Falls Around Her. This Canadian film features Tantoo Cardinal in the role of a world-famous Anishinaabe musician who returns to the reserve to rest and recharge – only to discover that fame (and the outside world) are not easily left behind.

Monday, Nov. 25, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

And as the dark days of winter start to creep, in the film committee has selected a very funny comedy from France, Sink or Swim (Le Grand Bain). This story follows several 40-something fellas who decide to form a synchronized swimming team for men as a means to cure their collective mid-life crises. This film has been generously sponsored by the Investment Planning Council.
