Walk the Talk to Raise Awareness to Communication Disorders

Around 1 in 10 Canadian children experience speech or language disorders. That?s why the Ontario Association for Families of Children with Communication Disorders was created in Tillsonburg. One of the founders Alison Morse says that there are less and less school boards that have speech pathologists. ?Whether it?s a speech disorder or a language disorder they need to get the help at school so they can access the curriculum. We are very, very concerned about local cuts.? The association held a fundraising walk in Coronation Park in Tillsonburg on Saturday called Walk the Talk. The London Speech and Language Centre was there. Speech pathologist Kerry Erle says families need all the support they can get. ?There?s a lot of advocacy, there?s a lot of information, and a lot of support that the families need because often they feel very much alone, that they?re the only ones with this problem and they have really no one to turn to.? The walk aimed to raise $7,500 to support the association. For more information go to www.oafccd.com
