OXFORD COUNTY - The Joint Municipal Coordinating Committee has officially asked Walker Environment Group to consider suspending the timeline for the proposed Southwestern Landfill Environmental Assessment.
The Committee includes representatives from Zorra Township, the Town of Ingersoll, the Township of South West Oxford and Oxford County. Chair and Zorra Township Mayor Marcus Ryan says it only makes sense for Walker to postpone it indefinitely until everybody has a better handle on COVID-19.
"With the current developments on COVID-19, people's focus right now is quite understandably not on the proposed South West landfill, but it's on their own personal health, their communities health and therefore there is a tremendous lack of engagement and that is the phase we are supposed to on right now, is that Walker is supposed to be getting public input, so we are suggesting they indefinitely delay it, while everybody deals with COVID-19."
Ryan says they send the letter to Walker on Friday.
"We got a response that they have reviewed the letter, I'm sure that they are like so many of us right now, scrambling with different modes of communication and people working from home and physical distancing, so we are waiting for a response from them."
