This weeks edition of Wanted Wednesday focuses on 26 year old Nicholas Newman. A warrant has been issued for Newman's arrest after he failed to show up to court to answer to his assault charge.
STRATFORD - Stratford Police are hoping to track down a man who skipped bail on assault charges this week for Wanted Wednesday.
26 year old Nicholas Newman was last known to reside on Youngs Street in the City of Stratford. A warrant has been issued for his arrest after he failed to appear in court for assault charges.
The alleged assault happened on June 29th at the Bentley's Bar and Inn on Ontario Street. Police say that Newman was displaying signs of being intoxicated and he was refused service by the staff at Bentley’s. Newman began causing a disturbance inside the restaurant and he was followed outside by staff where he was told not to return. Newman charged at the staff member speaking with him and assaulted him by punching him several times according to police.
Officers from the Stratford Police Service attended within minutes and placed Newman under arrest. Newman was transported to Stratford Police Headquarters where he was charged with assault and released with a court date of July 30th, 2018. Newman failed to attend court as required, and also failed to attend for his scheduled appointment to provide his fingerprints and photograph. As a result, a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Newman’s whereabouts are unknown at this time and police are requesting the assistance of the public to help locate him. If you have any information regarding Nicholas Newman, please contact either your local police service, or the Stratford Police at 519-271-4141. If you have information and wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
As Newman did not attend to provide his photograph, an image of him is not available.
