Weekend Frost Possible in Oxford

As the temperature dips back down, gardeners are watching anxiously to see if frost is in our future.

Gardeners will be keeping a close eye on the forecast for this weekend.

Temperatures this week are expected to hit the low 20's on Wednesday and Thursday before a cold front moves in for the weekend. Meteorologist with Environment Canada Geoff Coulson tells Heart FM they are not calling for frost right now but it is a possibility.

"And that cold front on Friday is going to usher in a much colder brand of air for the weekend - daytime high's on Saturday and Sunday are calling for 9 and 10 degrees in the Woodstock area and unfortunately the models are indicating the colder than normal air will persist for a week or so, so into the 20th and 22nd of May. Certainly we are still in the early part of the growing season and it has been a very cool spring in the area so far, so I would imagine most things are a little bit behind for this time of year and certainly these colder than normal temperatures we are expecting for the weekend and into next week are probably going to slow things down a bit as well."

Coulson says April was an exceptionally cool month in Southwestern Ontario and was actually the coolest April in the past 20 years in some areas of the region.
