West Region OPP Respond to 340 Collisions in 4 Hours

West Region OPP responded to over 340 collisions in the span of 4 hours last night as the region got hit with the first real blast of winter.

West Region OPP responded to over 340 collisions in the span of 4 hours during the snow storm yesterday. In Woodstock, vehicles were having a hard time getting up the hills and police responded to several collisions on the 401 near Ingersoll and at the Drumbo exit.

Two people were taken to hospital after a devastating crash last evening in Norfolk County. Police say a vehicle travelling north bound at excessively high speeds along hwy 59 in Courtland collided with a pickup  truck that was backing up into a drive way. Two people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Constable Ed Sanchuk was pleading with the public yesterday, asking everyone to slow down.

"The roadways are slick, they are wet and we have individuals driving at excessive speeds that are putting other lives in danger, we see this too often and I just don't what to say, I'm at a loss for words."

Sanchuk has this advice for all motorists this winter.

"We are urging everyone to drive at a reduced speed, drive to what the weather conditions dictate, so if you see snow, go slow, if see ice, think twice, the old adages that we use constantly but we need people to slow down and put their safety as a priority every time they get behind the wheel of a vehicle."
