The Woodstock Hospital is the first in the province to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification. That means their plan to embed environmental and energy efficiencies into its building plans paid off. Hospital CEO Natasa Veljovic says they built the hospital aiming for certification. "We were sort of pioneers in adapting it to hospitals, and we thought if we just managed to get certification we would do well, but getting silver has really pushed the envelope given how early we started on the process," said Veljovic. The designers, constructors and hospital staff worked to incorporate sustainable features and processes into the project such as improved indoor air quality, material selection and construction practices.
