Nicholas Crombach's Wind Vane will be the first public art commission for the Bruce Flowers Sculpture Garden, Florence Carlyle Park, and the City of Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - An award-winning artist from Kingston will have his artwork featured in the Bruce Flowers Sculpture Garden.
Nicholas Crombach's sculpture Wind Vane is a giant arch with a child sitting on top, trying to position a weather vane. It will be installed in Florence Carlyle Park, Vansittart Avenue at Ingersoll Avenue, sometime next year.
Mary Reid, the Director and Curator of the Woodstock Art Gallery, says this is the first-ever commissioned public artwork in Woodstock.
“This piece launches a dedicated public art program which is possible due to the generosity and vision of Bruce Flowers. I want to extend my sincere congratulations to Nicholas Crombach as well as my appreciation to the members of the public art committee who made this wonderful selection.”
Crombach's proposal was selected by a public art committee, following a review by city staff and public consultation.
He is happy that his artwork will forever have a home in the Friendly City.
“I am honoured to have been awarded this commission to create a significant artwork for the Bruce Flowers Sculpture Garden that will not only beautify the grounds but also respond to Woodstock’s rich history and heritage.”
This isn't Crombach's first public art commission. His piece titled Horse and Cart is featured in Kingston's Victoria Park. He also has a piece titled Billy, Nanny and the Kids on display in Burlington.
