Woodstock will have representation at this year's ISU World Juniors competition in March.
Wesley Killing of Woodstock is preparing for the biggest competition of his skating career.
Wesley, and his partner Tara Hancherow qualified for the ISU (International Skating Union) World Juniors after competing at the National Championships in Ottawa in early January.
The two had previously been selected by Skate Canada to participate as part of the Junior Grand Prix Circuit in Slovakia and Estonia last fall.
According to Wesley, this is the biggest competition he's competed in so far during his close to twenty years of skating. "This will be the biggest competition I have ever been a part of but, we were on two Internationals last fall where we got to go to Slovakia and Estonia and each of those had twelve teams from around the world so those are also fairly big but nothing compared to the Junior Worlds."
Wesley, who has been skating since he was two-and-a-half years old, started his training in Ingersoll. He and Tara, who have been skating together for less than a year, now train near Montreal.
The two will be one of three teams representing Canada at the World Juniors next month in Bulgaria.
Wesley says they definitely have their sights set on the Olympics. "This is definitely one more step but in retrospect to the Olympics, it's a small step so we still have a long way to go before we get to the Olympics; but it is definitely a step."
Wesley says he and Tara are solely concentrating on their training for the World Juniors at this time but he will be a part of the Ingersoll Skating Club's 60th Anniversary Carnival this year.
