Woodstock Budget Deliberations Begin Next Week

Mayor Trevor Birtch chaired today's meeting which set out the base budget for 2022.

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch chaired the Woodstock City council meeting today.

It was his first public appearance since word of his criminal charges. The Mayor has been charged by London Police with assault, sexual assault and sexual assault with choking. The Mayor has not made a public statement and his charges were not brought up during the meeting. 

The comment section was open during the meeting. Almost all of the comments were very negative towards the Mayor, with at least 6 people calling on him to step down. 

CAO David Creery did provide an update for the 2022 budget deliberations. Meetings will start next week.

On Tuesday council will look at Human Resources, Parks and Recreation, Arenas, Aquatics, Cowan Sportsplex, Special Events, Clerks, Fire, Administration Services, Marketing/Communications, CAO and Planning.

Then on Thursday council will debate the Committees of Council: Heritage Advisory, Museum, Economic Development, Small Business Centre, Doctor Recruitment, Information Technology, Engineering/Building/Bylaw & Parking/Transit/Para-Transit, Public Works/Waste/Sewer/Water, Mayor and Council, Final Budget Matters. 

They will have another meeting on March 3rd to go over the budgets for the Police Board, Library Board and Art Gallery. 

Then the final budget approval is scheduled for March 17th. 

All of the budget deliberation meetings will be live streamed on YouTube and open to the public.

Council is starting with a base budget of $64,058,890, which is a 3.35% increase from 2021 and represents a 1.61% tax change rate.
