WOODSTOCK - A local business owner is in the running for Woodstock City Council.
Dave Bloxsidge has put his name forward to be on the ballot when residents go to the polls in October. He grew up in Beachville, but moved to the Greater Toronto Area with his wife. Once they got married and decided to have a family, they moved back to Woodstock. Bloxsidge says what got him to submit his nomination paperwork.
"There are a lot of people coming to me asking me, hey, you'd be good at this. I think you have a calmness and a strong voice and willingness to speak with whoever, regardless of political stripe."
Bloxsidge mentions he originally wanted to stay behind the scenes, but as he looks at what is going on, he thinks he has something to offer. Bloxsidge talks about one issue that people have brought to his attention.
"The value we pay for our taxes, that is one of the biggest things I'm hearing from people who are longtime citizens, but also a lot of new people who moved into our city."
He adds that the people he has heard from believe they are paying too much in taxes but are not seeing the value being returned. Bloxsidge mentions he would only be one voice of 7 people if he got elected, and he would want to make sure he listens to the other opinions and come to a solution that is democratic.
Residents will vote in the municipal election on Monday, October 26th.
