Woodstock Candidate Profile - Kelly Gilson

She will retire at the end of September and has launched a campaign to become a City-County Councillor for Woodstock.

WOODSTOCK - The Executive Director of United Way Oxford is ready for her next chapter.

Kelly Gilson will retire at the end of September, and she has launched a campaign to become a City-County Councillor for Woodstock.

"As I start to think about retirement, because it's quickly approaching now, I've come to the conclusion that I am not ready to be done with my service to community! I think this is a really great progression of a way to continue with that service leadership."

If she's elected this fall, Gilson would like to bring a sense of collaboration to both Woodstock City Council and Oxford County Council. She says we have a growing community with growing needs in every sector.

"We need to give people the supports, services, facilities, and spaces they need to be healthy, well and enjoy living here, but we need to do to that with intention, careful planning and wise investments. So it's really critical to spend wisely."

Gilson has been managing local non-profits for 35 years, including 23 with United Way Oxford. 

She is originally from New Brunswick and moved here with her husband back in 1991. Gilson is a proud mother of two adult sons, both raised in Woodstock, and two golden-doodles. 

The municipal election is scheduled for October 26th.
