DASO, Bullwinkles Eatery and The Oxford County LGBTQ Pride Committee are among seven organizations benefitting from community grants in Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - The city of Woodstock has allocated grants in order to help out seven local causes.
The Oxford County LGBTQ Pride Committee is receiving $2,000 in order to help promote an upcoming event in Southside Park, while $2,500 is going to help Bullwinkles Eatery. Domestic Abuse Services Oxford (DASO) will also be receiving $6,000.
Councillor Todd Poetter tells Heart FM what the Woodstock Minor Football Association will be doing with their $12,500 grant.
"It was for training and different safety levels. They want to get into competitive football now so they need a little bit more money to make sure all their equipment is up to snuff and get into big time football."
Poetter adds another grant will benefit 17 year old Nojah Parker, a local high jumper.
"His bills going back and forth from Toronto with all the costs he has to get the proper training. I think it was his sister that did extremely well in high jump as well so we are glad to give him $3,000 to help offset his costs."
Two grants will also benefit youth programs in the area. YFC/Youth Limited is receiving $4,750 while River of Life/Youth Quest is being given $6,000.
In order to receive a community grant you must go through an application process beforehand. You can find more information about that process on the City of Woodstock website.
