Woodstock City Council has voted in favour of decommissioning Lions Pool and spending over $5-million to build a new outdoor pool at Cowan Fields.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock will decommission Lions Pool and build a new outdoor pool over at Cowan Fields.
City Council made the decision during last night's meeting and it's going to cost $5,350,000.
The two other options on the table included spending $2-million in order to renovate Lions Pool for the long-term or not having an outdoor pool all together.
In a video on her Facebook page, Councillor Kate Leatherbarrow explained why she voted in favour of the new pool at Cowan Fields.
"It's not Cowan Park soccer fields, it's Cowan Fields which is out on the corner of Devonshire Ave. There is a splash pad there, there's baseball diamonds, there's a pavilion, there's lots of parking, and that will slowly become your rec park for the future. Dollar wise it is a large investment, I think everybody lost sleep over it, but I just feel like the parking was never going to change at Lions Pool."
Leatherbarrow adds she understands a lot of Woodstock residents will feel nostalgic about Lions Pool, adding her own children did swimming lessons there.
